Product Shortages Continue / Importance of Proper Seed Handling

Fertilizer Update by Rob Fritz

Rob Fritz - rob.f@heftyseed.com

Intermittent product shortages continue at the terminals due to the early spring.  Barges are making it to the Twin Cities as planned, but planting is ahead of normal for this time of year, causing demand to be drastically higher.  Urea is priced insanely high, with no immediate relief in sight.  The high urea prices have caused 28% and 32% to go up in price, but supplies are great. Importance of Proper Seed Handling

Handling your grain or seed is something that needs to be done, but moving it while causing as little damage as possible is the trick. Bean ladders can offer some help. Bean ladders installed on augers, conveyors, or in bins can reduce your handling losses and possibly germination losses, which is particularly important this year. They can also make handling your grain more quiet and less dusty by reducing the distance the grain must fall before contacting the next “rung” on the ladder. There are a few different styles to choose from, but all offer similar results.  Give me a call at 1-800-274-3389 if you have any questions. Click here to send Mike an e-mail. [table “1” not found /]

Nitrogen Prices Skyrocket / Expect Drainage Tile Price Increases This Season

Fertilizer Update by Rob Fritz

Rob Fritz - rob.f@heftyseed.com

Prices on nitrogen products have drastically increased.  I look for no improvement in those prices until after planting, which should happen at a fairly rapid rate this season.  We are dealing with spot shortages in the Twin Cities on all products due to the early spring. Call us for more information at 1-800-274-3389. Click here to send Rob an e-mail.

Expect Drainage Tile Price Increases This Season

The cost of raw materials for plastic keeps going up, and recycled plastic material is getting hard to find. The price on drainage tile from many of the manufacturers has already gone up a little. I expect the price to continue to rise through this spring and summer. We continue to hold our pricing steady for the time being. Now would be a good time to order tile for late spring and early summer to save some money versus buying later. Click here to send Jim an e-mail. [table “1” not found /]
