Fertilizer Update by Rob Fritz

We have now reached the end of the fertilizer season for the 2014 crop. We have not been getting in any numbers for fall fill yet but do expect them in the coming weeks. Terminal supplies are still at very low levels from the spring rush and rail car delays are still an issue. I have a feeling that we may see a repeat of last year where the bottom for fertilizer is found right at year end. I expect the fertilizer prices to be very resistant to dropping even though the corn/soy price demands it.

Prepping Harvested Wheat Acres

Wheat harvest has started west of here and some of those wheat fields were planted for a very specific reason. These fields are ready to be tiled well before corn and bean harvest starts. If you can plan for it planting wheat is a great way to give yourself time to get into a field that needs tile. Also, if you’ve been hearing talk of cover crops a field like this would be a great opportunity to try some fall cover crop on your acres. Give me a call at 1-800-274-3389 if you have any questions.
