Beware Locking in 2017 Urea / GPS and Sprayer Boom Section Control

Fertilizer Update by Rob Fritz

I have been getting reports of people trying to lock in 2017 urea right now. It better be priced pretty low because we can get urea out of the Twin Cites today for $230.00 FOB, and the expectation is we have not stopped the dropping yet. Obviously, if the markets continue to improve on corn and beans, we could see some market bounce, but that would most likely be in the fall sales. P and K are holding steady on lower inventories and we expect to get an idea on where they will price in early August. Click here to send Rob an e-mail.

Equipment Tips by Mike Bemboom

GPS and Sprayer Boom Section Control

With most of the crop in our area up and growing there is a lot of spraying going on. One thing that can make spraying easier is to add automatic boom shut-offs so you don’t have to flip switches at the end of each pass. Boom section shut-offs can be added to nearly any GPS display and should also be able to control your application rate. These systems will also set a swath width to help you get back into your next pass without having to count rows or use a foam marker. It’s also a good time of year to get tiling done. The weather is warm and tiling in crop doesn’t create too much yield loss, especially in areas that will be wet and frequently drown out. If you’re interested in learning more about section control, tiling and many other features GPS systems can do for you check out www.techmeetsdirt.com to see details on an informational road tour that might be in your area.
